Research Interests

• Water Quality
• Emerging Contaminants
• Pollution Monitoring and Modelling
• River Basin Management

Meiqi’s research lies in the field of water science, with a focus on the catchment-scale monitoring, modelling and management of emerging contaminants within the urban water cycle. Her current work on PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in the Upper Danube Basin is structured around three interconnected themes: (1) assessing the occurrence and contamination status across multiple environmental compartments; (2) modelling PFAS fate and transport pathways to the surface waters; (3) conducting risk and scenarios assessments in relation to EU policy and regulatory frameworks.

Key Facts

Meiqi obtained her bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Lancaster University, UK, where her thesis investigated microplastic contamination in lake sediments in the English Lake District. She then graduated with master’s degree in environmental Monitoring and Management at Loughborough University, UK. Her master thesis analysed 60 years of snowfall patterns in the UK in relation to multiple climate variables, applying programming and GIS techniques.

Following her studies, Meiqi worked for one year as an environmental assessment technician in the private sector. Since June 2021, she has been working as a project assistant at the Institute of Water Quality and Resources Management.
