Gauthier's research expertise spans experimental fluid mechanics, mixing processes in porous media, granular flows, and hyporheic zone dynamics. He developed the open-source Python package “opyflow” for optical flow measurements.

Gauthier is a researcher at the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management at TU Wien, Austria. He studied physics, earned a Master in Hydrology and Hydrogeology from Sorbonne University and completed his Ph.D. at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in 2019 focusing on turbulent flows over rough permeable beds in mountain rivers.
